Guru Purnima Significance

Guru Purnima marks the spiritual seeker’s new year and is celebrated on the Ashadha full moon. It is a day to reflect on one’s progress on the spiritual path, renew one’s determination and focus on the goal, and set resolutions for the coming year. Gratitude on this day symbolizes the fullness of the disciple’s awakening, transcending duality and merging into the vastness of the self.

Among the 12 to 13 full moons in a year, the Vaishakha full moon is dedicated to Buddha (his birth and enlightenment), Jyeshtha full moon to mother earth and the Ashadha full moon is dedicated to honoring the tradition of spiritual masters. This is Guru Purnima.
